North Yorkshire vicar gives congregation money

A North Yorkshire church has given away £10 to every member of its congregation to mark Harvest Festival.

Members of Christ Church in Great Ayton are being asked to give the money to those in need or to recognise people in the community who have done things for others.

The vicar of the church, the Reverend Paul Peverell, said he hoped it would start "a Mexican Wave of good will".

Money will also be given to local groups.

Mr Peverell said he did not expect any of the money to be returned to the church, but was hoping to hear "interesting stories" about how the money was spent.

"We do give away a lot of money all the time as a church, " he said.

"We do support causes, especially at harvest time.

"This time we are trying to make it local and personal by getting the congregation involved in distributing the money and adding to it with their efforts."
