York noise patrols to keep volume down

Noisy neighbours are being targeted in a clampdown on night-time noise levels in York.

City of York Council has organised additional "noise patrols" as students return to the University of York, and around Halloween and Bonfire Night.

During Freshers' Week, from Monday, they will advise students on how to control noise.

The patrols will run from 22:00 and 01:00 BST. The council said excessive noise was a "genuine nuisance".

Councillor Dafydd Williams, cabinet member for crime and stronger communities, said the additional patrols would "help to ensure that some people's fun doesn't spoil that of others".
