North Yorkshire hit by severe flooding

Help

Torrential rain caused major disruption in North Yorkshire, with some areas having their wettest ever September day.

A 40-mile stretch of the A1 was closed for much of the day, leaving more than 100 vehicles trapped.

Many other roads and schools were closed and some villages in the Yorkshire Dales were cut off.

Flood warnings remained in place across the county.
