York elderly health unit closure consultation extended

A public consultation is to be held over plans to close a mental health unit for the elderly in York.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said the closure of Mill Lodge was part of a move to allow patients to remain in their own homes.

Some patients at the unit would be moved to one of the trust's three other units in the York and Selby areas.

The consultation is now expected to conclude in November 2012.

The trust said it would also be developing a team to work closely with care homes, helping to support people with mental health needs who are living in nursing and residential homes.
