Child dies after play area accident at York College
North Yorkshire Police said Ofsted and the Health and Safety Executive had been informed
A three-year-old girl has died following an accident at a play area at a college in York.
Police were called to York College, on Tadcaster Road, by the ambulance service at 14:35 BST.
Officers said the three-year-old had suffered serious injuries after becoming tangled in a piece of play equipment.
The girl was taken to York Hospital but died from her injuries, North Yorkshire Police said.
The toddler is believed to have been in the care of the nursery at the college, police added.
The nursery offers full day care provision for children aged six weeks to five years.
Officers said Ofsted and the Health and Safety Executive had been informed.
A spokesperson for the City of York Council said: "All relevant agencies are aware and will be working together over the next few days.
"This evening our thoughts are with the family of the child and staff at the nursery."
York College, which serves students between 16 and 19 years of age, moved into the £60m Tadcaster Road campus in 2007.
