Summerbridge school to reopen after flood damage

Fire crews spent two hours pumping water out of Summerbridge Primary school

Some pupils will be using temporary classrooms for several weeks when they return to a flood-damaged primary school on Monday.

Fire officers spent two hours pumping water out of Summerbridge Primary School, near Pateley Bridge, in July.

North Yorkshire County Council said it had erected temporary classrooms to enable pupils to start the school year.

The Conservative-run authority said renovation work would be finished in October.

The village school was flooded with 4ft (1.2m) of water following heavy rain on 7 July.

Arthur Barker, executive member for schools, said: "Flooding causes terrible damage to property but our contractors have been working hard to make the site safe for pupils to return to school."

The head teacher at the school, Angela Mundy, said staff and pupils would make the best of the situation until the repairs were completed.
