Time trial cyclist killed after crash with car on A19

A 75-year-old cyclist has died after he was involved in a crash with a car while taking part in an organised time trial event in North Yorkshire.

Police said it happened on the northbound stretch of the A19 near Thirsk at about 17:00 BST on Saturday.

The cyclist, from West Yorkshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old from North Yorkshire, was taken to the Friarage Hospital. Witnesses are being asked to contact police.
