Girl killed in Selby car crash named as Carly Smith

A 15-year-old girl killed in a crash on the A19 in North Yorkshire has been named.

Carly Smith died and seven others, including three other children and a baby, were hurt in the crash at Chapel Haddlesey, near Selby, on Monday.

North Yorkshire Police said two cars, a Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Astra, had collided at about 20:15 BST. The A19 was closed for several hours.

An inquest into the teenager's death has been opened and adjourned.

The other children received only minor injuries and are being treated at hospitals in York and Wakefield.

Two of the three adults involved, including a man who had to be cut free from the wreckage, were seriously injured, according to officers.
