North Yorkshire County Show cancelled due to heavy rain
One of North Yorkshire's biggest agricultural shows which was due to take place later has been cancelled after recent heavy rainfall.
Organisers of the North Yorkshire County Show said they had "no alternative" but to cancel the event due to poor ground conditions.
The annual show, at Otterington Hall near Northallerton, usually attracts about 12,000 visitors.
It was with "regret" that the show had been cancelled, organisers said.
The event was due to have featured show jumping, livestock, arts and crafts, classic cars and traction engines among other displays.
Alan Andrew, show secretary, said conditions at the showground were just not suitable for the event to go ahead.
"I drove my car in and could barely get 20yds [18m] into the field. I got out of the car and my heart sank," he said.
"Ten months of planning and 10 months of thinking for one day of fun for people in North Yorkshire and the weather's done for us."
