The parents of a 16-year-old girl whose death in York last week is believed to have been drugs-related have paid tribute to their "beautiful" daughter.

Poppy Rodgers was found seriously ill at a home on Tang Hall Lane on Thursday evening and died later in hospital.

Her parents said she "put a smile on the face of everyone who met her".

A 26-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man have been released on conditional bail after being arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug.

'Detailed investigation'

A man, aged 21, who was left in a serious condition in the same incident was discharged from York District Hospital on Sunday after making a good recovery, said North Yorkshire Police.

Ms Rodgers and the 21-year-old man were thought to have taken a "yellow/white paste" which could have contained amphetamine, police said.

North Yorkshire Police said a "detailed investigation" had been launched into the girl's death, but toxicology results and tests on the substance would take two weeks.

A post-mortem examination had been carried out but further tests were required to help determine the cause of Ms Rodgers' death, police added.

In a statement, the teenager's parents said she was "a bright young girl with the world ahead of her".

"She had a personality that charmed everyone. She had two loving parents and a family that would provide her with everything and all the support that she could possibly need," they said.

"Sadly, along with her open nature came a certain naive view of the world, and Poppy would trust everyone that she met in her all too short life."

They added: "We have lost a beautiful, funny and charming daughter and we miss her terribly."

An inquest into Ms Rodgers' death is expected to be opened later this week.
