Protester wins temporary reprieve over Irton tree felling

Help

An unnamed protester has climbed a 100-year-old tree in a North Yorkshire village to prevent it from being cut down.

The 60ft (18m) tree at Irton near Scarborough has been blamed for causing damage to a drain and nearby wall.

North Yorkshire County Council said it would seek further legal advice after the contractors were prevented from removing the tree on Tuesday.

Villagers have fought to save it for five years.
