Three people died when their car caught fire as it came off a main road in Wiltshire and hit a hedge.

The crash, which happened just before 05:45 BST near Semington, involved a silver Volvo that was heading towards Westbury on the A350 from Melksham.

Wiltshire Police said all three people in the car died at the scene.

"Due to the extent of the injuries sustained, formal identification of the deceased will take a number of days," a force spokesman said.

"It is believed the deceased had connections to the Warminster and Melksham areas," the spokesman said.

"Wiltshire Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle before the collision occurred."

The A350, between the Semington roundabout and Stony Gutter, was closed for 11 hours while the circumstances surrounding the accident were investigated.
