The mines below Corsham in Wiltshire could become "Europe's largest data reservoir" as part of a new government scheme.
The Alan Turing Institute, named after the wartime code breaker, would collect and store data from across the country.
BBC Points West's Dickon Hooper has been exploring the mines with Jeff Thomas from the Corsham Institute.
