Prison champion offers confidential support to pupils

8 January 2014 Last updated at 11:04 GMT

A Wiltshire teaching assistant has become a prison champion under a new scheme to offer support to pupils with a parent in custody.

Sarah Beveridge of Dilton Marsh Primary School is the first volunteer to go through the new scheme with Erlestoke prison near Devizes.

The aim is for her to be a confidential and empathic ear for pupils who are struggling at school because a parent is in prison.

Scott Ellis reports.
