Swindon girl hit by car suffers serious head injuries

A 12-year-old girl suffered serious head injuries when she was hit by a car while walking her dog.

The girl was crossing Westfield Way, in Haydon Wick, Swindon, with her younger brother when she was struck by a silver Toyota.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken by ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

Her nine-year-old brother was not injured in the incident, shortly before 17:00 BST on Wednesday.

No arrests have been made but the investigation into the incident is continuing, Wiltshire Police said.

The road was closed by police for about three-and-a-half hours.

It is the second incident in which a child has been hit by a vehicle on the same stretch of road since February, when a nine-year-old boy was hit by a bus.
