Southmead Hospital awarded £475,000 for maternity services

Maternity services at Southmead Hospital, in Bristol, are to be given £475,000 in funding from the government.

The Department of Health has awarded the money to North Bristol NHS Trust to upgrade facilities at the hospital for expectant mothers.

Improvements include a new birthing pool and the conversion of two areas in antenatal wards into family rooms.

A spokesman said the trust is "absolutely delighted" at the funding.
