A petition signed by 2,500 people has been handed into NHS Wiltshire calling for the resinstatement of a minor injuries unit.

The petition was handed into the NHS board meeting earlier by Devizes MP, Claire Perry.

A commissioning group which is taking over from the primary care trust next April said the unit is not viable.

However the NHS has said the petition will be discussed at its next board meeting.

From April 2013, healthcare service commissioning will transfer from the Primary Care Trust to the Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group (WCCG).

Deborah Fielding, from the WCCG, said they were "acutely aware of the issues in Devizes and equally as keen to deliver a solution".
