Post-mortem for Swindon flat fire victim

A post-mortem examination will be carried out later on a woman who died in a fire at a flat in Swindon.

The 32-year-old died at Thorley Court in Hayward Close, Abbey Meads, in the early hours of Monday morning.

A 25-year-old man was taken by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital near Bristol with severe burns. He remains in a critical condition.

Wiltshire Police said the cause of the fire is being investigated and a search of the area has been carried out.

Det Insp Matt Davey said: "We have an unexplained death and we have to keep an open mind while we seek to establish the cause of the fire."

Formal identification of the woman has not yet taken place but police said they had informed her family.

Police said that at this early stage in the investigation, the woman's death is being treated as unexplained.
