Allington reservoir expansion work under way

Work has begun to increase the capacity of a Wiltshire reservoir as part of an improvement programme by Wessex Water.

Allington reservoir in Kington St Michael is being made bigger so it can hold an extra five million litres.

A drainage facility will also be built from the reservoir, next to the A350, to help prevent flooding in the area.

The work is part of series of measures designed to improve supply to customers without needing to develop new resources, the company said.

The programme will take eight years to complete and the work comprises of more than 20 individual schemes across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset.
