A338 into Salisbury closed for rail bridge work

A major route into Salisbury has closed for four months to enable Network Rail to replace a railway bridge.

A section of the A338 is closed between Winterbourne Earls and the junction with the A30, near Ford.

Network Rail said it needed to replace the "Broken Cross" bridge over the main Salisbury to Waterloo line so it can carry larger freight trains.

Diversions have been put in place and Wiltshire Council is to carry out road layout improvements during the closure.
