A body has been found under burning debris at a supermarket car park in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

Police said the discovery was made in the early hours of Tuesday by a dog handler on routine patrol at the Bath Road Sainsbury's store.

The fire service put out the blaze and the body was found shortly afterwards.

Officers said it was too early to say whether the incident is suspicious. The car park at the store has been sealed off for forensic examination.

Wiltshire police have not been able to confirm if the body is a man or a woman.

The body will be taken to Flax Bourton mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Power said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in and around the area of the Sainsbury's car park between the hours of 1:30am and 3am.

"The car park is quite active late at night, as people drive through here to use the cash point or walk through as a short cut.

"In particular, we would like to hear from the young couple who were spotted walking through the car park holding hands."
