Wiltshire care home given formal warning

A Wiltshire care home has been warned after inspectors saw footage of staff treating a resident in a way described as "close to being force fed".

The Care Quality Commission also found some staff were "rough" with residents at Avonmead Care Home, in Devizes.

The home said it was tackling the problems urgently and inspectors said the home had started to improve.

Formal warnings have also been issued to Greenacre care home and the Prospect Dental Practice in Trowbridge.

'Increased risk'

During a visit to Greenacres, inspectors found the home was failing to properly assess each individual's exact needs and was therefore risking care that was unsafe or innappropriate.

The home was also failing to maintain safe standards of cleanliness and hygiene in bedrooms at the home, which left people at increased risk of infections.

Inspectors who visited the Prospect Dental Practice found staff were not complying with government regulations over the decontamination of instruments and infection control.

As a result, patients were not properly protected from the risk of infections.

Both the Greenacres and Prospect Dental Practice were both unavailable for comment.
