Man charged over Devizes solicitor shooting

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a solicitor was shot in the head at his office in Wiltshire.

James Ward, 58, was seriously injured at Morris, Goddard & Ward Solicitors in St John's Street, Devizes, on Monday.

Michael Chudley, 62, from the nearby village of Rowde, is charged with attempted murder, threats to kill and firearms offences.

He remains in police custody and will appear at Salisbury Magistrates' Court later.

The firearms charges he is accused of are possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and carrying a firearm with criminal intent.

Mr Ward, from Westbury, was airlifted to Bristol's Frenchay Hospital after the incident at 14:55 BST on Monday.

He suffered life-threatening head injuries and is in a very serious condition in hospital with his family at his bedside.
