Fire forces evacuation of BMW plant in Swindon

A fire has forced the evacuation of the BMW plant in Swindon.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said it was thought the fire started in the basement of the steel pressing unit, just after 1100 BST.

One member of staff at the premises on Bridge End Road, in the Stratton area of the town, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Eight fire crews were sent to tackle the fire, which has now been contained.

BMW has launched an internal investigation into the cause of the fire which involved a liquefied petroleum gas powered industrial cleaning machine.
