A Royal British Legion (RBL) branch in Swindon has closed after falling into debt.

The Penhill branch had about 400 members and the decision to close it was made at a meeting on Friday.

The branch opened in 1967. A spokeswoman from Penhill RBL Amateur Boxing Club, which has been based there since 1979, said it will have to move.

A total of four RBL clubs across Wiltshire have folded in the last five years.

The boxing club spokeswoman said it had been offered other venues outside the area, but the club wanted to remain in Penhill.
