Two critical after three cars crash near Chippenham

Police are seeking witnesses to a crash involving three cars which left two men critically injured.

The crash happened at 0700 BST as a recycling vehicle on its rounds in Wiltshire turned across the A350 between Chippenham and junction 17 of the M4.

The lorry was in collision with a Transit van and a Renault Megane.

Two local men who were in the van suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident, Wiltshire Police say.

Witness appeal

The Transit's 30-year-old passenger was thrown from the vehicle and is being treated at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious head injuries.

The van's 26-year-old driver had to be cut free from the vehicle and is in Swindon's Great Western Hospital, also with serious injuries.

Both men are from Chippenham.

The refuse lorry's three occupants received minor injuries and were taken to hospital in Bath and later released.

The Megane's driver was treated at the scene for shock.

The A350 was closed at the scene for seven hours.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them on 0845 4087000.
