Man dies after Stanley 'disturbance'

A 33-year-old man has died from his injuries after being involved in a "disturbance" in County Durham, police said.

The man was found in a back lane in Rose Avenue, Stanley, after police were called at around 01:25 GMT on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital in Newcastle.

Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the incident. A post-mortem examination will take place later.

Det Supt Paul Goundry, from Durham Police, said officers were conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area.

He said: "The scene remains cordoned off to allow for full forensic examination."
