Drivers in County Durham and Darlington have been warned to take care on the roads after overnight snow showers.

There were falls of up to an inch (2.5cm) in some areas, and reports of black ice on roads including the A1 and the A69 between Hexham and Corbridge.

There was also a jack-knifed lorry on the eastbound carriageway of the A69.

Durham Police said that with further wintry showers predicted throughout the day, motorists should be prepared, and allow extra time for any journeys.
