The three family members killed in a head-on collision between a car and a lorry in County Durham have been named.

Robert Reed, 75, his 14-month-old great grand-daughter Destiny Reed, and her mother Natalie Simpson, 18, the partner of Mr Reed's grandson, died at the scene on the B1404 on Wednseday.

Mr Reed's wife, Margaret, 74, remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police are continuing to question the 42-year-old lorry driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

During the collison the lorry left the road between Houghton-le-Spring and Seaham and went through two hedges.

It then went up an embankment before ending up on Sharpley golf course, on the fairway of a hole where some police officers were playing.

The family, which was travelling in a Renault Scenic, was from the Houghton-le-Spring area.
