Woman released in Wearside care home murder inquiry

A woman arrested on suspicion of murdering a pensioner at a sheltered care home has been bailed.

Officers were called to Emblehope House on Allendale Road, Farringdon, on Friday following reports of concern for Harriet Davison.

The 88-year-old was found with a number of injuries "consistent" with an assault and later died, police said.

A 39-year-old arrested on suspicion of her murder has now been bailed pending further inquiries.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Inquiries are ongoing and police continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

"We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who might have noticed anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible," she added.
