2 September 2014 Last updated at 17:11 BST

One hundred heart transplant patients have released balloons to thank the donors who saved their lives.

The group gathered outside Newcastle's Freeman Hospital to pay their tribute.

Each balloon contained a personalised message of thanks to the donors written by the survivors.

The hospital's cardiothoracic centre has carried out 116 transplant operations since 1985.
