Pedestrian dies after being hit by taxi in Newcastle

A pedestrian who was hit by a taxi in Newcastle has died in hospital.

The man, who has not been named, was struck by a vehicle on the northbound slip-road from Swan House roundabout to New Bridge Street early on Sunday.

The 26-year-old was taken to the city's Royal Victoria Infirmary with multiple injuries, but died several hours later.

No-one else was hurt. Northumbria Police said an investigation into the cause of the collision was continuing.
