A man has denied the murder of a 32-year-old man in a street in Washington, near Sunderland.

At Newcastle Crown Court, Gary Mawson, 36, denied killing Bryan Knox, from Barmston in Washington, on 8 June.

Mr Knox was found on the Usworth Hall estate with pressure injuries to his neck and later died in hospital.

Mr Mawson, also from Washington, was remanded in custody and is due to go on trial in January 2015.
