STANDARD 08:09 Sunny start remains dry

After a largely sunny start to the day cloud will increase, there will still be sunny spells and most places will remain dry, as any afternoon shower will be very isolated.

STANDARD 08:19 North gets 'transport plan'

Newcastle is among five cities in the North of England which are to unveil a £15bn plan to improve road and rail connections in the region.


The joint One North report will include plans for a new 125mph inter-city rail link, faster links with Newcastle and better access to ports and airports.

It has been developed by an alliance of five cities - Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield, after Chancellor George Osborne said faster links between Manchester and Leeds could create a "powerhouse".

STANDARD 08:25 Reward for missing man

A £3,000 reward is now being offered for information about the disappearance of Sunderland man Robert Hutchinson.

The 57-year-old was last seen on 23 June, when he left his home on Corporation Road in Hendon, in his blue Nissan Micra.

Police believe he has been murdered - two men have been arrested and released on bail.
