Rachel Blaylock dies as car hits tree near Ponteland

An 18-year-old woman was killed when the Mini she was travelling in left the road and ploughed into a tree.

Rachel Blaylock, of Milbourne in Newcastle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the A696, near Ponteland, early on Sunday.

Two men, both aged 19 and another 18-year-old woman who were in the car were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after the crash.

One of the men has serious, but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

An investigation into the accident is under way.
