A teenage girl is critically ill in hospital after a 24ft (7.3m) fall at a park in Sunderland.

The 14-year-old sustained serious head injuries as well as damage to her pelvis and internal injuries, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) said.

She fell in Mowbray Park at 19:10 BST on Saturday evening.

A GNAAS trauma team treated her at the scene but weather conditions meant a road ambulance took her to hospital.

The girl is in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.
