Three men have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a Sunderland man.

Robert Hutchinson, 56, was last seen on 23 June in Hendon and was reported missing on 26 June after his family had not heard from him.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following what police described as a "fast moving investigation".

Two men, 39 and 59, are also being held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "It is crucial we now find out the full circumstances of what has happened and we are continuing to ask for witnesses to come forward."

    Cigarette robber brandished knife 08:45:

    A robber carrying a knife stole £150 in cash and up to £600 of cigarettes from Sainsbury's store on Larkswood Road in Redcar at 06:30 yesterday.

    Cleveland Police have released images of the man, a suspected accomplice waiting outside, and examples of the tobacco he stole.

    Officers ask anyone who is offered the cigarettes or who has information on the robbery to call 101.

    Nissan factory still suspended 08:30:

    Production work at the Nissan plant in Sunderland is still suspended after maintenance work was carried out.

    The firm, which employs 6,000 people at the site, said vehicle assembly is expected to resume in the coming days.

    The suspension has been in place since scheduled maintenance work was carried out in the press shop.
