The number of arrests in an investigation into allegations of sexual crime against vulnerable women and girls on Tyneside has risen to 104.

Northumbria Police set up Operation Sanctuary in January and have identified about 80 women and girls who are potential victims.

In addition to the arrests, 15 people have been charged.

Of these, 11 men are going through the court system charged with various sexual offences, including rape.
