Sunderland leg stabbing man dies in hospital

A man has died in hospital after he was stabbed in the leg.

Police said the 53-year-old was found injured in the street in Purley Road in Sunderland shortly before 04:20 BST on Monday.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment, but died on Tuesday night.

Two people have been charged with wounding with intent and affray in connection with the attack.

Police arrested four people following the stabbing. Two, aged 28 and 36, were released on bail.

Jack Ryan, 21, and Jess Ryan, 24, of Toronto Road in Sunderland, have been charged with wounding with intent and affray and will appear later at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court.
