Arrests after shots fired from car in Bishop Auckland

Two people have been arrested and bailed after reports of shots being fired from a car in Bishop Auckland.

On Tuesday, police received reports that shots were fired from an estate car at a white van in the Oakley Green area of West Auckland at 14:00 BST.

Those in the car are thought to have been wearing balaclavas, police said.

A man aged 20 was arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence and a woman, 19, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both were later bailed.

They both remain in police custody.

The estate car is described as being dark blue or black and the van is believed to have been a Ford Transit, police said.

After the shots were heard both vehicles headed off towards the centre of West Auckland. No injuries have been reported.
