Northumbria Police post boxes for LGBT concerns

Northumbria Police has set up post boxes in Newcastle specifically for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.

The force said they were an alternative way to report issues or concerns by people who may feel uncomfortable discussing them face to face.

They will be at the city library, the Yard pub, on Scotswood Road, and Northumbria University students' union.

All will be checked weekly by a dedicated officer.

PC Ross Turner said: "We have introduced the post boxes so that any concerns the LGBT community has can still be heard.

"I hope people take the time to use them so that we are given the opportunity to respond and deal with issues affecting them."
