Heart-warming party for young Freeman Hospital patients

23 April 2014 Last updated at 13:09 BST

Critically ill children awaiting new hearts have been putting their troubles to one side to enjoy a party.

The youngsters' hearts have failed and they are dependent on mechanical replacements as they wait for a donor organ which could save their lives.

Newcastle's Freeman Hospital held a party for the patients, which staff said was a welcome opportunity for them to socialise with other children as they cannot attend regular nurseries or playgroups.
