Northumbria Police said a body found on Monday in water at the Northumbria Water transfer station in Riding Mill had been identified as Mr Diggle.

Police believe there was no third party involvement in his death and a report has been prepared for the coroner.

Mr Diggle's next of kin have been informed, police said.

Staff raised the alarm when he did not turn up for his morning coffee at Riverhill, an Abbeyfield house in Corbridge, on the morning of 28 March.
