Tyneside flats: Building and demolishing an icon

First built in the north-east of England 150 years ago, the Tyneside flat could be making a comeback.

They are identified by their two front doors and, despite appearances, provide homes for two separate families.

But, as one Newcastle developer is bringing them back, across the Tyne in Gateshead hundreds of them are being knocked down.
