Arrest after pedestrian fatally hit by car in Wallsend

A driver has been arrested after a man was fatally struck by a car on North Tyneside.

The 60-year-old pedestrian was hit on the slip road for Battle Hill, off the A1058 Coast Road in Wallsend, on Friday night.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Northumbria Police appealed for witnesses to the incident off the eastbound carriageway at 23:40 GMT.
