Newcastle woman charged in boy rape inquiry

A woman has been charged in connection with the alleged rape of a boy in Newcastle.

Details of the alleged attack on the child at an address in the city were reported to detectives on 10 December.

The 69-year-old will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on 28 March, charged with arranging to facilitate child sexual abuse.

Three men, one of whom has since died, face rape charges and the cases are progressing through the courts.

The men who still face charges are aged 21 and 32. Both are from Newcastle.

A 45-year-old, also from Newcastle, died while on remand at Durham Prison awaiting his next court appearance.

Durham Police said the death, on 28 December, was not being treated as suspicious.
