Three generations are flying high

17 January 2014 Last updated at 11:10 GMT

A teenager from Walbottle in Newcastle became one of the youngest people to fly a glider solo in the UK after his 14th birthday.

Matthew Moor learned to fly a glider at the Northumbria Gliding Club which runs a cadet scheme for teenagers.

He is a third generation flyer, as his granddad is an instructor at the academy, and his father is also a keen flyer.

BBC Look North is focusing on sports stars of the future for its latest series of Sportskids.
