A woman who was on a night out with friends has been raped in the toilets of a Newcastle bar, police have said.

The 19-year-old was attacked at about 02:20 GMT in Eazy Street on Westmorland Road, Northumbria Police said.

A spokesman said the woman had been assaulted after a man went into the female toilets after her.

He said the man was described as in his 20s and "of Eastern European appearance" with short dark spiky hair.

He added that the man had been wearing a black vest top and jeans.

Det Sgt Helen Anderson said specialist officers were helping the woman "to ensure she has the utmost support at what is an extremely distressing time for her".
