A1 in Northumberland reopens after gas canister fire

A section of the A1 in Northumberland has reopened after a wagon carrying gas canisters caught fire.

A 3,400ft (1,000m) exclusion zone was in put place on the Belford bypass around the LPG tanker which caught fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews put out the blaze and no-one was injured.

The road was closed until 23:00 GMT between Scremerston and Alnwick. The road was not damaged, Northumbria Police said.
