Hadston Co-op armed robbery suspects detained

Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Co-op store in Northumberland.

Two masked men carrying a handgun and a knife threatened staff and stole money from the shop in Hadston precinct, Northumbria Police said.

A force spokesperson said they left the store on foot and ran towards a nearby estate at about 22:00 BST on Saturday.

Two men, aged 23 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery. Police are appealing for information.

    Slow moving on the A1 southbound 08:23:

    Aside from the usual roadworks, most of the roads in the North East are moving well.

    There's very slow traffic on the A1 southbound between the Hexham turn off in Blaydon and Dunston Interchange in Gateshead in the roadworks area. More on BBC Travel News for Teesside and Tyne and Wear.
